The Progressive Era: Shifting Gender Roles in White, Middle-class America

This exhibit provides historical context for the understanding of gender roles in the Progressive era and during World War I (1910 - 1925).

Using objects from the Mother, Home, and Heaven collection at the College of Wooster, it details the influence of marriage, etiquette, patriotism, and religion on gender roles in this period.

Our exhibit follows the journey of women as they increased their influence as citizens and laborers while men tried to find their place within a rapidly evolving society.
